McLoughlin High School (Mac-Hi) instructional coach Steffany Esser is the recipient of a Fulbright Teachers for Global Classrooms Program award.

Steffany Esser

Esser has been teaching social studies at Mac Hi for over 14 years, including government, freshman transitions, AVID 12, U.S. and world history, while also advising the school’s National Honor Society. Milton-Freewater Unified School District Superintendent Aaron Duff shared his thoughts on this news stating, “The district is excited to see our staff be recognized for this national award. This opportunity will give Mrs. Esser experiences she can bring back to our students and staff in Milton-Freewater to strengthen their education.”

The Fulbright Teachers for Global Classrooms Program is a professional learning opportunity that includes a rigorous training course, a workshop held in person in Washington, D.C., and a two-to-three-week international exchange. Esser will know her exchange destination after completing a course this fall.

“We are thrilled to see Mrs. Esser acknowledged by the Fulbright program,” said Principal Mario Uribe Saldana. “Our teachers work very hard for their students and the community, so this shines a well-deserved spotlight on our excellent educators at Mac-Hi.”

This Fulbright Teachers program is geared toward educators who will continue to develop and implement meaningful connections throughout the United States as well as internationally.

“This Fulbright and my new position give me an opportunity to bring global teaching into more classrooms than just my own,” said Esser. This program encourages teachers to engage in research, collaboration, and expansive professional networking to bring collaborative possibilities to their home communities.
