The Me and My Prince Ball Committee has announced its new partnership with United Way of the Blue Mountains as it works quickly to prepare for the 16th annual event.

This year’s ball will take place on May 16 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Eastern Oregon Trade & Event Center.

Committee member Michelle Kane said that the switch from Girl Scouts of Oregon and Eastern Washington was a sensible move for the community event, which has become an anticipated tradition in the greater Hermiston area.

“The committee has been involved with the ball for so long that our daughters are now grown and we no longer have Girl Scout troops of our own,” Kane explained. “Since we no longer have a close affiliation with Girl Scouts it just made sense that we should find a new nonprofit partner to keep the event going.”

The committee is grateful for the local community-based groups that stepped forward to offer assistance during their search for a new partner. United Way of the Blue Mountains was chosen, however, because it offered the most support and stability.

“United Way has the means to help Girl Scouts and the committee make the transition quickly and provide the ball with additional assistance to continue it long term,” said Kane.

“It is an honor to partner with Me and My Prince Ball and support the efforts of all those who care about this wonderful event,” added Christy Lieuallen, executive director of United Way of the Blue Mountains. “United Way of the Blue Mountains truly values opportunities to enrich family relationships. Me and My Prince Ball is not only a heartwarming and memorable event for dads and daughters, but it will raise funds to benefit United Way’s partner agencies, passionately serving those in need in our community.”

The Me and My Prince Ball will continue to serve the same purpose in the community, which is to promote healthy girl/male role model relationships by helping to strengthen the bonds between girls of all ages and their fathers or father figures.

“Everything else will remain the same,” Kane assured. “It will be run by the same close-knit group of volunteers, and will include portraits, refreshments, corsages and boutonnieres for our guests.”

This year’s theme will be A Tale as Old as Time from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. Tickets will go on sale at 60 Minute Photo and the Hermiston Chamber of Commerce in mid-April.
