Gerald “Jerry” McEvoy Jr., 64, died on Sunday, March 8, 2015 at his home in Meacham.
He was born on Jan. 31, 1951 in Walla Walla, Wash., to Gerald and Audrey McEvoy. Jerry was the second of six children, Mary Jo (Mike) Hermiston, Margie (Jim) Hermiston, Kathy (Gary) Portland, Susan (Craig) Eagle Crest, and Rick (Rosie), Milton-Freewater.
Jerry grew up in Hermiston, attending West Park, Armand Larive, then Hermiston High School. Growing up he played baseball and basketball. He continued to be an avid sports fan throughout his life. “Go Niners and Giants.”
As soon as he was old enough he had a paper route, then worked as a box boy at Knights Grocery and Sigman’s Market. After graduating in 1969 he went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad and worked many years as a brakeman until he retired. He married Marla Cox on Jan. 1, 2005. They have homes in Stanfield and Meacham. Jerry loved living in Meacham for over 40 years. Hobbies included hunting and fishing. He loved animals and had a dog, cats, pigs, cows, and horses. He also loved to have a garden.
He is survived by his wife, Marla Cox-McEvoy; three children, Stacy, Mick and Anna Marie; his brother and sisters; numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of life Service will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 4 p.m. at the Burns Mortuary Chapel in Hermiston.
Disposition was by cremation.
