Merle F. St.John, 85, long-time resident of Hermiston, died on Thursday, April 25, 2013 in Hillsboro.
He was born on Feb. 19, 1928 in Ecorse, Mich. Merle was a vVeteran of World War II serving in the Army. Merle met his wife, Wanda Danesi, on his tour of duty in Italy. They married on Jan. 12, 1948 in Kalispell, Mont. The couple lived in Montana, Washington state and Oregon. They had lived in the Hermiston area since 1966. Merle had worked at the Umatilla Army Depot. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge and the VFW Post No. 4750.
He is survived by nieces, Sandra Cann, Karen K. Hayward, and Daniela Martinelli, of Lucca, Italy; nephews, Larry Everett, Ronald Ray St. John, Franco Paoli and Alexsandro Paoli, both of Lucca, Italy.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda St. John in 2006.
A graveside service with military honors was held at the Hermiston Cemetery on Wednesday May 1, 2013.
