Michael O. “Mike” Martin died on Aug. 30, 2022 at his home in Hermiston at the age of 67.
He was born on May 3, 1955 in Yakima, Wash. to Owen and Betty Johnson Martin.
He was raised and attended school in Izee before graduating from Grant Union High School in John Day, class of 1973. Mike was united in marriage to Peggy Melstad on July 19, 1975 in Forest Grove. They settled in Hermiston in the early 1980s, where Mike worked in farming. He attended Blue Mountain Community College and earned his associate degree in business agriculture. Mike later became an electrician and went to work for Gordon’s Electric, where he spent his entire 30-plus-year career.
He was an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, had served as chairman of the Hermiston Municipal Airport Board, and was very community minded. Mike enjoyed hunting and camping, aviation, football, traveling, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Peggy Martin, Hermiston; daughters, Jennifer Bethers (Michael), New Market, Md., Carolyn Dougan (Sam), Oregon City and Kristen Coller (Randy), Hermiston; father, Owen Martin, Umatilla; sister, Debbie Green, Heppner; grandchildren, Sydney, Ryan, Caitlin, Maddie, Brady, Ayla and Molly; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Martin in 2021.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2022 at 10 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 485 W. Locust Ave., Hermiston.
Burial will follow at the Hermiston Cemetery.
