Milton A. Barron died on March 8, 2018 at his home in Hermiston at the age of 89.
He was born on March 2, 1929 in Dansville, N.Y. to Arthur Isaac and Mildred Somers Barron.
Milt was raised on Maple Grove Farm near Nunda, N.Y. He graduated from Nunda High School in 1948 and served in the United States Army, stationed in Germany until his honorable discharge in 1952. Milt moved west and worked on the construction of Brownlee Dam, where he met Shirley Marie Blank. They were united in marriage on Aug. 17, 1957 in Reno, Nev. Milt worked for Roger’s Construction, building freeway from California to Idaho, including the construction of Interstate 84. They settled in Hermiston in 1965 and built their home in 1968. In 1980, they founded Bare-Wite Construction, their family-operated paving and excavating business that they operated until retiring in 2001.
Milt was an avid hunter and reader who enjoyed fishing, farming, his farm animals, riding his ATV and, above all, cherished time with his family. He is survived by his children, Keith (Teresa) Howard of Florida, Gregory (Carma) Barron of Irrigon, Kathleen (Mark) Wilkerson of Pendleton, Tami (Mark) Watson of Umatilla, Joan (Tim) Reese of Ritter, Kipp Barron of Umatilla, Anita (David) Baumgart of Irrigon, Jason (Mindy) Barron of Hermiston; 27 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; sister, Alida (Bob) LaDelfa, Mt. Morris, N.Y.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Milt was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Shirley Marie Barron; his parents; his parents-in-law; daughter-in-law, Kimberly Barron; grandson, Matthew Jason Barron; and sisters, Mary, Athrena and Evelyn.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Burns Mortuary Chapel, Hermiston.
Burial with military honors will follow at the Sunset Hills Cemetery, Umatilla.
