A Milton-Freewater police officer has been arrested and charged with assault and official misconduct, according to the Oregon State Police.
Milton-Freewater police officer Brian D. Scott was arrested on Wednesday and charged with second-degree assault and second-degree official misconduct for an incident in which Scott allegedly pushed a handcuffed suspect into a concrete wall causing injuries to the suspect’s scalp and vertebrae.
According to the OSP, agency detectives began an investigation into the incident on Monday. Scott has arrested a 46-year-old male on a theft charge and transported him to the Milton-Freewater Police Department for processing. While walking the arrestee to the processing area inside the police department, Scott allegedly pushed the arrestee in the back. The arrestee fell forward, while handcuffed, and struck his head on a concrete wall. The suspect was taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries.
According to the OSP, video surveillance from within the police department corroborated the evidence detectives obtained to that point.
Umatilla County District Attorney Dan Primus said the video evidence will not be released until the investigation is completed in order to preserve the integrity of the investigation.
