Motorists can expect smoother roads along OR335 south of Helix in Umatilla County after state contractors resurface the cracked and deteriorating pavement.

During construction, travelers will experience delays up to 20 minutes as flaggers and pilot cars direct traffic through the work zone. The project is scheduled to begin May 28 near mile point zero at the south edge of town, then continue south to MP 5.5, taking about a week or two to complete.

After paving, Oregon Department of Transportation maintenance crews will continue work in the area, adding rock to highway shoulders, fixing guardrail and repainting lines on the new road surface. This will result in occasional delays at times.

Motorists are urged to slow down and be prepared for delays by planning extra travel.
