The cities of Boardman and Irrigon will begin their Music in the Parks outdoor summer concert series Monday, June 12.
The first performer of the year will be the ‘Bahuru Marimba Band at the Boardman Marina Park at 7 p.m., located off of N. Main Street on Marine Drive. The ‘Bahuru Marimba Band, comes to us from the Tri Cities. Directed by Walt Hampton, ‘Bahuru is a 15-member Zimbabwean marimba band, comprised of middle and high school students. Those unfamiliar with African marimba, will be amazed by the big, rich, earthy sound of ‘Bahuru’s music. ‘Bahuru is beginning to establish a reputation for their wonderful, energetic performances in the Mid-Columbia region.
The Music in the Parks concert series is held each summer alternating between Boardman and Irrigon Marina Parks. The concerts are free to the public and begin at 7 p.m. on Mondays through Aug. 14.
