Names Released of Officers Involved in Shooting

The Umatilla County District Attorney’s Office has released the names of the officers involved in the April 28 shooting of a Washington man.

Three officers have been placed on administrative leave pending the conclusion of this investigation. They are Officer Scott Clayton who has served nearly 10 years with the Milton-Freewater Police Department, Officer Jesse Myer who has served 2 and a half years with the department, and Detective Morgan Dunlap who has been with the department for 1 and a half years.

The man shot by police has been identified as Robert Gage Sregzinski, a 19-year-old male from College Place, Wash. Sregzinski has been released from St. Mary’s Medical Center after being treated for non-life threatening injuries. He has been lodged in the Walla Walla County Jail on a detainer issued by the Walla Walla County Juvenile Justice Center

Sregzinski was shot by officers after he opened fire on them during a high-speed chase near Milton-Freewater around 7:15 p.m. on April 28. According to the district attorney’s office, Sregzinski was stopped by police before taking off with police in pursuit. During the chase, Sregzinski opened fire on the pursuing officers. After police were able to disable the vehicle, Sregzinski got out of his car and continued to fire at the officers, who the shot him in a lower extremity.

The Umatilla/Morrow Major Crimes Team, lead by the Oregon State Police in cooperation with the Umatilla County District Attorney’s Office, is investigating the shooting.
