Nominations open for District’s Distinguished Alumnus Award

The Hermiston School District is seeking nominations for the sixth annual Distinguished Alumnus award. The award is given annually to recognize deserving Hermiston High School graduates who are leaders within their respective field of expertise and within their community.

Nominations must be turned in to Hermiston High School or the school district office by Dec. 2.

Aspiring candidates need to meet the following requirements:

  • Must be a graduate of Hermiston High School, having attended Hermiston High School for at least two consecutive years prior to graduation
  • Leader in his or her chosen field/profession, with a proven record of achievement and at least 10 years verifiable and successful professional experience;
  • Inspires excellence in others by serving as a role model for youth
  • Recognized for significant career contributions or achievement
  • Visible commitment to the well-being of the local area, state, nation, or world
  • Exemplary character and a model citizen
  • Supported by strong references and/or endorsements

The 2020 Distinguished Alumnus will be revealed at the Hermiston Distinguished Citizens Banquet in February. The selected individual will also serve as a mentor to students throughout the 2019-20 school year with a day of classroom visits to meet with various student groups as well as the high school’s administrative team.

The recipient will also be a featured speaker at the HHS commencement ceremony scheduled for 7 p.m., on Thursday, June 4, at the Toyota Center in Kennewick.

Nominations can be submitted in a letter outlining the above skills or by completing a nomination form.
