A reported leak from a broken gas line near Highway 395 has resulted in the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office (UCSO) asking people near the leak to evacuate.
At 1:41 p.m., the sheriff’s office sent out an alert about the gas leak near Highway 395 and Margaret Avenue in Hermiston. Residents located between Power City Road and Margaret Avenue and from Highway 395 to Lind Road “need to evacuate to the southwest for their safety,” according to the UCSO.
Citizens affected by the evacuation notice can seek shelter at the McNary Heights Elementary School, 120 Columbia Blvd., in Umatilla.
The Oregon Department of Transportation has closed off N. Highway 395 near the intersection of Highway 730.
