The Oregon Department of Agriculture (ODA) is now accepting proposals for the 2022 Priority Noxious Weed Grant.
Priorities for grants include:
- Aquatic or Riparian Weed Control Projects that focus on treatment to protect and restore water quality, fish and wildlife habitat and overall watershed health through active partnership building with Soil and Water Conservation District’s (SWCD), watershed councils, or other state, federal and private land managers.
- Early Detection and Rapid Response (EDRR) Weed Control in area that was impacted by fire that focus on treatment to protect and restore fish and wildlife habitat and overall watershed health through active partnership building with SWCD’s, watershed councils, or other state, federal and private land managers.
- New innovative noxious weed control projects, build on existing projects thru the development of a cooperative weed management area or other partnerships for more innovative on-the-ground projects.
Counties, local government agencies, tribal governments, and other weed management groups may apply for statewide priority grants to mitigate state-listed noxious weeds. Up to $20,000 is available to purchase equipment needed to complete the project. ODA will grant awards based on the availability of funds. The Oregon State Weed Board will review grant proposals and provide recommendations to the ODA director. Considering the recommendations and the goals of the department, the director of ODA will make the final award choices.
During the 2021 session, the Oregon Legislature granted ODA $400,000 in additional funds to support noxious weed grant projects. The money is included in ODA’s General Fund and is a one-time-only addition unless the Legislature chooses to continue the investment in the next biennium.
ODA will begin accepting proposals today and continue to accept proposals through March 15. Grant awardees will be notified no later than late April. All funded priority noxious weed projects must be completed by June 30, 2023, the end of the grant cycle.
