A missing Bainbridge, Wash., man who attempted to take his own life is being treated at a Portland-area hospital after he was found by Oregon State Police officers and Wasco County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) deputies Saturday night inside a utility trailer at a rest area along Interstate 84 west of The Dalles.

The man was found around 10:23 p.m. on Saturday when an OSP trooper located a vehicle in the eastbound I-84 Memaloose rest area matching the description of one previously broadcast for an attempt to locate related to a missing, possibly suicidal man out of Washington state. After WCSO deputies arrived to assist, they attempted to communicate with the 39-year old man who they believed was inside a utility trailer attached to a Ford Excursion.

After several knocks and attempts to verbally call the man out of the trailer, the officers determined the door was unlocked. The officers entered the trailer and found the man lying on the floor moaning and in distress from an apparent overdose of pills.

The trooper provided emergency medical care until local emergency medical responders came to the scene and took over. LifeFlight responded and took the man to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center for treatment.

The man’s vehicle and trailer were transported to a local tow lot for safekeeping until family members could retrieve them. The man will be receiving a mental health evaluation.
