Opal Howard, 102, longtime resident of Echo, died on Saturday June 8, 2013 in Hermiston. She was born in Osceola, Mo., on May 25, 1911.

Opal married Irvine Howard on Nov. 17, 1933 in La Grande.

They moved to Echo in 1951. She had worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for a few years and later served was the postmaster at the Echo Post Office, retiring at age 60. She was a 50-year member of the VFW, Echo Garden Club, Woodsman of the World, and Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Irvine Howard, in 1998.

Opal is survived by four nieces, Bev, Jackie, Mary and Ann; and four nephews, Gale, Allen, Tom,and Keith.

A graveside service was held on Thursday June 13, 2013 at the Echo Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Echo Garden Club.
