Gas prices in Oregon are at their highest levels since December 2015, while the national average is at its highest price since November of last year.

“Demand for gasoline continues to break seasonal records as people are driving more,” she said. “This surge in demand and higher crude oil costs are pushing gas prices higher. Despite the hikes, prices are at their lowest levels for early May since 2009.”

The national average has increased by 53 cents per gallon after hitting a 2016 low of $1.70 in mid-February. The Oregon average has increased by 46 cents since falling to its 2016 low of $1.90 in late February. AAA expects pump prices to move higher heading into the busy summer driving season, but expects prices to remain below last year’s, barring unforeseen events. The national average peaked at $2.80 in June 2015, while Oregon’s average reached its 2015 peak of $3.15 in July.
