Retail pump prices are fairly flat for now but refinery maintenance season will soon put upward pressure on prices.

For the week, the national average remains at $2.28 a gallon, while Oregon’s average adds a penny to $2.54, said AAA Oregon/Idaho Public Affairs Director Marie Dodds.

“Prices are holding fairly steady due to lower driving demand and an oversupplied market as a result of increased U.S. production,” she said. “As refinery maintenance season ramps up and driving demand increases, we could expect to see some of the gasoline supply in the U.S. used up.”

Oregon is one of 21 states to see prices rise week-over-week. The largest weekly increases are in Indiana (+ 5) and Michigan (+3 cents).

However, Oregon is also one of 42 states to see prices slip in the last month. The national average is four cents less and the Oregon average is one cent less than a month ago. The biggest monthly decrease is in West Virginia (-11 cents).

West Coast gas prices continue to be the highest in the country, with six states landing on the top ten list of most expensive markets. Hawaii is most expensive at $3.12 and remains the only state with an average above $3 a gallon. California, Washington, Alaska and Oregon round out the top five most expensive states. Oregon moves up to fifth from sixth a week ago.
