OregonLive is giving some love to the Hermiston Bulldogs.

In a story analyzing the state’s high school football scene, writer Nick Daschel takes stock of the current Bulldog team that is coming off an impressive 56-17 trouncing over Sandy. The Bulldogs are 5-1 on the season as they prepare to open the Columbia River Conference on Friday against The Dalles at Kennison Field.

Daschel likes Hermiston’s chances of advancing pretty far in the playoffs. Here’s what he wrote:

Hermiston is legitimate: The Bulldogs have never reached the playoff semifinal round, let alone play for a state championship. But both are possible firsts for Hermiston in 2014. The Bulldogs were sensational in blitzing Sandy 56-17. Hermiston has a polished quarterback in Chase Knutz, offensive balance and plenty of speed. Silverton still rates as the 5A favorite because of its offensive and defensive lines, but the Bulldogs will be a handful.
