Oris Cook of Hermiston passed away on Sept. 19, 2018 in Salem at the age of 94.
He was born on Dec. 24, 1923 in Wise, Va. to Melvin and Margie Whitaker Cook.
Oris traveled extensively as a child, living in Virginia and Kentucky. As a young man, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He married Velma Shoupe on June 10, 1946 in Cumberland, Ky. In 1948 the couple moved to Hermiston, where they raised their family. Oris worked as a rigger for the Army Corps of Engineers on McNary Dam for over 30 years, retiring in 1980.
Oris enjoyed gardening, and working on his small farm and on home improvement projects.
He is survived by four daughters, Essa Evalyn LaChance of Palmer, Alaska, Marilyn Cook and Linda Cook, both of Otis, and Elizabeth Cook of Dallas; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Velma in 1997; his parents; and a granddaughter, Mona McCabe.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018 at Hermiston Cemetery.
