The Two Rivers Correctional Institution inmate who walked away from an inmate work crew near Boardman on Wednesday was arrested Thursday morning after being spotted by a citizen, according to the Oregon State Police.
At approximately 10:49 a.m. on Feb. 26, Umatilla County Dispatch received a call from a citizen reporting a sighting of Steven Lee Fox near South First Street and East McKinney Avenue just south of Hermiston. A Umatilla County Sheriff’s Deputy responded and located Fox at approximately 11 a.m., near the reported location.
Fox was taken into custody without incident before being transferred to the custody of the Oregon State Police and subsequently lodged at the Umatilla County Jail on an outstanding warrant issued as a result of his escape.
Fox walked away from an Oregon Department of Corrections work crew at Finley Buttes Landfill near Boardman around 11 a.m. on Wednesday. Fox was working on a 10-man crew when staff discovered he was missing.
Fox entered prison on Dec. 7, 2010, on one count of burglary in the first degree, one count of unlawful use of a vehicle, and one count of robbery in the second degree out of Multnomah County. He also has one count of burglary in the first degree out of Umatilla County. His earliest release date is Aug. 12, 2016.
