The Oregon State Police (OSP) and Oregon Department of Transportation are asking for the public’s help to locate the vehicle and driver involved in a hit-and-run crash last Thursday night in the Baker City area. The vehicle caused extensive guardrail damage before leaving the scene.

On Jan. 2, at approximately 11 p.m., OSP discovered the damage on the eastbound on-ramp to Interstate 84 from Cedar Street just north of Baker City. OSP had patrolled through the area about an hour earlier and saw no damage so the trooper believes the damage happened between 10 and 11 p.m.

Preliminary investigation indicates the vehicle was traveling on Cedar Street and tried to get onto the eastbound on-ramp toward I-84 when its driver lost control. The vehicle crashed into the guardrail and knocked down a sign. After causing the damage, the driver backed the vehicle out and left the scene, possibly heading eastbound on I-84. The vehicle may be a late 1980s to- early 1990s Ford pickup and should have extensive front damage.

Anyone with information to help locate the vehicle and identify the driver is asked to call the OSP at (541) 523-5867.
