According to the OSPA website, the recognition is awarded annually to an individual whose contributions have had a significant impact on the efficiency of the human resources office and to the field of human resources; who has distinguished him/herself through leadership service; and is a collaborative contributing participant in personnel function and/or programs.

“Donna is a consummate professional,” said Superintendent of School Dr. Tricia Mooney. “Her experience and wealth of knowledge ensure the HR department runs smoothly and places her in a position of leadership among her colleagues and peers.”

Thomas began her professional career with the Coos Bay schools while in high school. Despite taking a break in service to be home with her young family, she arrived in Hermiston in 2011 with 29 years of experience. Now in her 38th year in public education, Thomas officially retired with the Public Employee Retirement System this winter, however, the district hired her back on contract in the same capacity.
