Oregon State University Extension is celebrating 100 years in Morrow County and is hosting a centennial celebration and gallery opening at the SAGE Center this Saturday, May 5. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Guest speakers include Oregon State Rep. Greg Smith (R-Heppner) and Morrow County Commissioner Don Russell.
The gallery display will highlight current work by Extension in the area, as well as some highlights from the past. Programs and research currently offered by Morrow County Extension include:
- 4H Youth Development
- Juntos and Latino Outreach
- Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Education Program (SNAP-Ed)
- Livestock and Rangeland Management
- Cereal Crops Agriculture
Morrow County Extension is also served by the Hermiston Agricultural Research and Extension Center (HAREC) that serves irrigated agriculture, and Columbia Basin Agricultural Research Center outside Pendleton that serves dryland producers in the county.
“You will be amazed by the breadth and depth of the educational and research efforts of Extension in Morrow County,” says OSU Extension Regional Director Mary Corp. “Extension has a local history of adapting to the needs of local communities with a focus on healthy farms, families and food over the past 100 years. Please come and help us celebrate this rich heritage.”
