Oval McBride

Oval Dewey McBride, 61, of Irrigon was called to his celestial home on March 2, 2022.

He was born to Mr. and Mrs. Donald Jay and Glennis Dean McBride on Sept. 3, 1960 in La Grande. Oval was born and raised in beautiful Union County. Growing up at the base of the Blues in Imbler, Oregon, he met his life long partner and love, Marilyn Collins in first grade at Imbler Elementary.

In 1979, Oval and Marilyn joined hands in holy matrimony and began raising a family of their own. Setting out to make a life for themselves, they lived in the Imbler and Summerville area until relocating to Ione, Pendleton and finally, La Grande, where they would live for several years with their 3 young daughters. In 1994, the McBride family relocated to Baker City for Ovals’ job as a small engine mechanic at Cliff’s Saws and Cycles.

They would stay in Baker City until 2006 when they relocated to Pilot Rock and then on to Irrigon to be closer to his girls and grandchildren. In 2018, after a short stay in Meacham, Oregon and the sudden passing of his beautiful wife of 40 years in 2020, Oval moved in with his eldest daughter in Irrigon where he resided until his unexpected passing. Oval spent many, many years tinkering with motorcycles, snowmobiles, 4 wheelers and lawnmowers, teaching each of his girls how to do maintenance and repair on them. Many summer weekends were spent riding motorcycles in the farm fields of Baker City or at Virtue Flats.

Oval enjoyed teaching and sharing his love of hunting and fishing and took his family on many camping and hunting excursions. He later took those trips with his grandchildren. He loved the outdoors and his green thumb was always evident in the beautifully cared for lawns he kept at every residence he lived. Oval loved each and everyone of his children and had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren.

He cherished every second he was able to spend with them and always cried when they had to leave to go back home.  Oval was known by many and will be missed by many.

He was survived by his three girls: Amy Lee Zepeda of Irrigo, Amanda Ann Shodin of Indianapolis, Ind., and Tonya LeAnne McBride of Hamilton, Mont.; and son, Jacob Knight of Durkee. He leaves behind eight grandaughters, four grandsons, one great-granddaughter, two brothers and many, many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his best friend and wife, Marilyn Marie Collins McBride; Mother, Glennis Dean Revels McBride; Father, Donald Jay McBride; Sister, Wanda Lynn McBride Stedtfeld; and infant brother, Troy McBride.

A celebration of life and spreading of ashes will be held on Friday Aug. 12, 2022 at 11 a.m at the home of Johnny and MaLinda Gunnels in Imbler. More details can be found on Facebook on his profile page or that of his three daughters.
