A couple of Hermiston businesses will be celebrating with open houses this month and next.
At noon on July 24, the Next Chapter Bookstore & Literary Café will hold a grand re-opening with the help of the Hermiston Chamber of Commerce. The bookstore and café is located at 1000 S. Highway 395, suite C.
JB Brick Company will hold a three-day event celebrating five years in business. The open house is scheduled for noon to 6 p.m. on Aug. 1-2, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Aug. 3. The chamber will be on hand to help celebrate on Aug. 1.
JB Brick Company is also holding a 100 Brick Speed Build Contest during the three-day celebration. Each contestant will be given 100 random Lego bricks and 20 minutes to build a creation. Judges will determine the winners, who will be announced on Aug. 7.
There will be three age groups, 5-9, 10-17 and 18 and over. The first-place winner in each age group will win a $25 gift certificate.
