Beginning in May, the Hermiston Parks and Recreation Department will offer two classes for kids interested in filmmaking.
Film Kids – Students will get the opportunity to work with DSLR cameras and shoot collaborative short films with classmates. They will gain knowledge in scriptwriting, storyboarding, proper lighting, sound operation, and editing. All equipment used in this class will be provided. Seating is limited.
Classes will meet on Tuesdays, and there will be four sessions. Session 1: May 2, 9, 16 and 23; Session 2: June 6, 13, 20 and 27; Session 3: July 11, 18 and 25; Session 4: Aug. 1, 8, 15 and 22. Classes will run from 6:15 p.m. until 7:15 p.m. The class is open to kids from 9 through 16 years of age.
Mini Filmmakers – Students will get to work with camcorders and shoot collaborative short films with classmates. They will learn how to operate the camera, monitor sound, and piece together short films with storyboarding. This is a great way for young kids to explore their imaginations and bring them to life through visual storytelling. All equipment will be provided. Seating is limited.
Classes will meet on Thursdays, and there will be four sessions. Session 1: May 4, 11, 18 and 25; Session 2: June 1, 8, 15 and 22; Session 3: July 6, 13, 20 and 27; Session 4: Aug. 3, 10, 17 and 24. Classes will run from 4:15 p.m. until 5:15 p.m. The class is open to kids from 5 through 8 years of age.
Both classes will be held at the Hermiston Conference Center, 415 S. Hwy. 395. The cost is $50 per student for residents and $63 per student for non-residents. There is a 10 percent discount for registering for all four months at once.
