N. Pearl “Mama Pearl” Fletcher passed away in Hermiston on July 9, 2019 at the age of 91, after a very long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. At her passing, in our home, she was surrounded by her daughter, Margie Morgan and her husband David, and our beloved caregiver Wendi.
She was born on May 22, 1928 in Long Beach, Calif. to John George Wickham and Marjorie Fern Clark Wickham.
Pearl moved to Royal City, Wash. in 1958, then to the tiny town of Smyrna, Wash. in 1966. She built her own home there in that valley and raised her three daughters, driving school bus for over a quarter of a century. Once retired, she spent the next 15 years traveling to Arizona in the winter months and to Alaska to fish during those many summers of all those years.
Pearl volunteered at the Royal City Food Bank for many years. She loved gardening, could raise delicious cantaloupe and tomatoes, and liked sharing all with her family and friends. Our “Mama Pearl” will be sorely missed.
She is survived by her daughters, Margie Morgan, Tanna Thornton and Bonnie Racus; sister, Winona Mae Brummet, Yuba City, Calif.; and multiple nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Pearl was preceded in death by her mother, Marjorie Fern Wickham, in 1996; her papa, John George Wickham, in 1981; her brother, Wesley Lee Wickham, in 2011; and her husband of 28 years, our very loved “Grandpa Vern” Louis Fletcher, in 2004.
Arrangements are pending.
