Peggy Burton Passes Away at 87

Peggy L. Fetter Burton of Hermiston died on Feb. 1, 2022 in Hermiston at the age of 87.

She was born on April 29, 1934 in Bemidji, Minn. to Harry and Lena Kaufman Huff.

Peggy graduated from Bemidgi High School and was baptized in the Methodist church in 1953 before moving to Vancouver, Wash. at the age of 19. She was introduced to a young man returning home after serving in the military, Bert Jay Fetter. They were married on Sept. 11, 1954 in Vancouver, Wash. The family moved to Hermiston in 1968, where Peggy continued to stay at home and raising her young family and selling Avon. Her door was always open to any of her kids’ friends, and she became a second mom to many of them. Bert passed away in 1997. She married Chuck Burton on April 3, 1999. They were active in both the Hermiston Elks and Eagles lodges. Chuck passed away in 2019.

She enjoyed crafting with her friends, bowling, fishing, being in the mountains, mushroom hunting, jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, baking, cooking and canning. She cherished spending time with her family and friends. Peggy was an avid reader, collected frogs, and loved watching the quail and hummingbirds in her yard and traveling.

She is survived by her children, Junie (Randy) Moses, Waldport, Jackie (Joe) Redinger, Rodney (Lori) Fetter, Hermiston and Mark Fetter, Milton-Freewater; step son, Randy (Laurina) Burton, Hermiston; sister, Joyce Quade, Rothchild, Wis.; 20 grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Peggy was preceded in death by her husbands; her parents; and siblings, Jack, Lloyd, Harry, Bob, Vern and Ruby.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at 11 a.m. at the Hermiston Christian Center, 1825 W. Highland Ave.
