Kids and parents can learn how air traffic control works through an interactive presentation at the Pendleton Public Library on Sept. 7
Eastern Oregon Regional Airport Director Dan Bandel, a former air traffic controller, will lead the interactive presentation into how things happen behind-the-scenes at an airport. There will be opportunities for audience participation to learn about the role management, control towers, pilots, and ground control work at an active airport. Bandel will also answer questions and share some of his favorite parts of the job.
After the presentation, children will be able to play in the “mini airport,” in the children’s area. The new dramatic play zone features a Boutique Airlines ticket counter, a security zone with mini suitcases and costumes to take on the role of a pilot or air traffic control. This temporary play zone is only available for a limited time.
Meet an Air Traffic Controller is free and no registration is required. The event runs from 1-2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at the Pendleton Public Library, 502 SW Dorion Avenue, Pendleton.
