The Umatilla County Historical Society (UCHS) is inviting the public to take part its Summer Walking Tour and bus excursions.
The next tour, History To Die For, led by Keith May, will take place at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 1. May will lead participants on a walking tour of the Olney Cemetery in Pendleton. Those taking part are asked to meet at the cemetery for the 90-minute tour around the cemetery “to meet the town founders, movers, shakers and reprobates.” May will talk about headstone iconography and the Old Chinese Cemetery.
The cost is $5 and proceeds will help pay for repairs to the UCHS Heritage Station Clock Tower.
The UCHS is also offering two Oregon Trail Bus Excursions in August. The first bus excursion will be on Aug. 10 and will tour the trail from the summit of the Blue Mountains to Pendleton. The second tour will be on Aug. 17 and go from Pendleton to Echo Meadows.
