Jena Haight Doherty, a longtime Pendleton resident, died Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2015 at Columbia Care Cottage Adult Foster Home in Hermiston at the age of 83.

She was born July 28, 1932 at Spokane, Wash., to parents, Loyd Romayne & Rosamond (Gilbert) Haight.

Jena was raised in Ritzville, Washington and graduated from Ritzville High School. She attended Willamette University in Salem, Oregon for a year before earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Eastern Oregon College (University) in La Grande, Oregon. On June 13, 1953 she married John Joseph Doherty at St. John’s Catholic Church in Portland, Oregon. After graduating from college she taught in Island City and Grants Pass before they settled in Pendleton where she taught at Lincoln Elementary school for several years. She temporarily left teaching after Robert was born, but returned to the classroom in 1968 to teach in Pilot Rock where she remained until 1974. Jena loved children.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, John Doherty of Hermiston, OR, and Son, Robert Doherty of Hermiston, OR; numerous nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Loyd & Rosamond Haight; 2 Brothers, Chadwick & Tinkham Haight; Sister, Phyllis Bauer.

Funeral Services were held on Monday, August 24, 2015 at Burns Mortuary Chapel, Hermiston. Burial followed at Olney Cemetery in Pendleton.
