Perry Burroughs

Perry D. Burroughs of Ellensburg, Wash., formerly of Eastern Oregon, passed away on July 22, 2022 in Yakima, Wash. at the age of 53, after a three-year battle with multiple myeloma.

He was born in Prineville on Feb. 26, 1969.

Perry was raised on a farm in Prosser, Wash. by his grandparents, Marcella and Charles Burroughs. He began working at area farms and ranches at the age of 7, and he was an avid hunter during his youth. He graduated from Prosser High School in the class of 1987. He moved with his grandparents to Boardman in 1990.

Perry married Sara E. Petersen in Prosser, Wash. on Sept. 21, 1991. The couple lived and farmed in Boardman and across the Columbia River in Alderdale, Wash. on Sara’s family farm. He worked as an equipment mechanic for John Deere, New Holland, and for himself throughout his career. He lived in Hermiston for several years before moving to Ellensburg, Wash. five years ago.

Perry enjoyed raising Hereford cattle, growing alfalfa and hay, and collecting and restoring 1970s John Deere tractors. He volunteered at the Boardman Fire Department as a firefighter and ambulance driver for many years, where he was given the nickname of lead foot. He later kept a fire vehicle of his own ready to go and would stop at any vehicle accident to help. His strong desire to help others was a big part of who he was.

He is survived by his wife, Sara, and his mother, Cynthia (Lee) Woods.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Marcella and Charles Burroughs.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 6, 2022 at the Hermiston Cemetery.

Burns Mortuary of Hermiston is in care of arrangements.
