Peter G. “Pete” Halliger of Jacksonville, Florida, died on March 31, 2016 in Umatilla while on a trip visiting family at the age of 80.
He was born on March 26, 1936 in St. Paul, Minnesota to parents, John and Fay Blatzheim Halliger. Pete was raised and attended school in Minnesota, graduating from Buffalo High School in Buffalo, Minnesota in the class of 1954. He later attended and graduated from Anoka Technical College in Minnesota. Pete worked as a computer programmer for United Power Association in Elk River, MN. He married Carolyn Kessler on March 17, 1984 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Pete retired in 1989 and worked as a river boat captain on the Mississippi and St. Croix Rivers until 1996. They moved to Jacksonville, Florida in 1996 where they have lived since. Pete was a member of the North Florida ORCAS Boat Club and was a meals on wheels volunteer. He enjoyed building radio control boats and trains.
He is survived by his wife: Carolyn Halliger, Jacksonville, FL; daughters: Debbie Kruse, Monticello, MN and Diana McAlpine, Prior Lake, MN; step son: Mark Pratt, Elk River, MN; brothers: Hank Halliger, Astor, FL, and Rick Halliger, Monmouth, OR; sisters: Judie Johnson, Umatilla, OR, and Penny Freeman, Pawtucket, RI; 4 grandsons; and 3 great grandsons; 3 step grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Peter was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Russ and Tony, sisters: Susan and Denise, and his high school sweetheart and mother of his daughters: JoAnne (Erickson) Halliger.
A family celebration gathering will be held.
