Pendleton Grain Growers is selling its six Eastern Oregon retail stores, including Hermiston’s, as part of a restructuring plan, the cooperative announced.
Along with the Hermiston store, PGG will be selling its stores in Pendleton, Milton-Freewater, Athena, Island City and Joseph. None of the stores will be closed and no employees will be laid off while the co-op looks for buyers, according to PGG.
In a statement issued last Friday, PGG Chairman Tim Hawkins said the decision to sell the stores did not come easy.
“The board recognizes the vast impact that these changes will bring to the agricultural and community members throughout the region,” Hawkins said. “As we work through these changes, we are dedicated to providing support to those affected, while still being focused on delivering value to the membership today and in the future.”
PGG said it is looking to sell the stores during the next four to six months.
