A strategy session to identify how the state’s workforce system can be better tied to regional needs will be held on Thursday, May 8 at the Hermiston Conference Center.

The strategy session will be hosted by the Oregon Consortium/Oregon Workforce Alliance, the Oregon Employment Department and the Hermiston Chamber of Commerce. The event is scheduled for 2-4 p.m. in the conference center’s Altrusa-Rotary Room.

The session will include discussions on how to deliver high-value services to business customers and what is needed to connect qualified workers to employers.

“This is a critical step in the state’s effort to integrate services and redesign the workforce system to enhance Oregon’s competitive position,” said Chamber President and CEO Debbie Pedro. “It is one of those rare times when we have the ability to re-examine WorkSource as a system rather than just one or two services at a time. “

Pedro said the public’s input helps local workforce investment boards and the Oregon Employment Department allocate resources where they are needed most.

“Without an honest dialogue with customers and service providers it will be difficult, nearly impossible, to ensure workforce services are effectively deployed,” she said.
