Ranald C. “Randy” Jones of Hermiston died on Nov. 20, 2017 in Hermiston at the age of 82.
He was born on July 18, 1935 in Wenatchee, Wash. to Ranald and Barbara Blackman Jones.
He graduated in the class of 1954 from El Cerrito High School in El Cerrito, Calif. He served in the United States Army and the Washington Air National Guard before serving in the United States Coast Guard Reserves until his honorable discharge. Randy worked for General Telephone, now Verizon, for several years in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana. He married Johnna Shimp in 1988 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. They have lived in Hermiston for the last 30 years. Randy worked as a driver for PTI (Professional Transportation, Inc.), transporting Union Pacific railroad crews until he retired in June 2016. He was an avid archer who enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing baseball and racing sailboats.
He is survived by his wife, Johnna Shimp Jones, Hermiston; daughter, Rhonda Taut and son, Clay Jones of Port Angeles, Wash.; stepchildren, Tamara McFarland, Heather Fink and Thomas Shimp; and brothers, Rod Jones, Mt. Shasta, Calif. and Steve Jones, Florida.
Randy was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Roseann.
A visitation will be held on Friday, Nov. 24, 2017 from 1 to 5 p.m. at Burns Mortuary Chapel, Hermiston.
A celebration of life service with military honors will be held on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2017 at 3 p.m. at Burns Mortuary Chapel.
