Randy Studebaker Passes Away at 44
Randall A. “Randy” Studebaker died on Sept. 25, 2023 at his home in Hermiston at the age of 44.
He was born on Dec. 28, 1978 in El Paso, Texas to Steven and Anna Hoke Studebaker.
Randy was raised and attended schools in McMinnville. Starting at the age of 14 and throughout his high school years, Randy served as a cadet for both the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office and the city of Carlton Police Department. Randy graduated from McMinnville High School in 1997 and immediately enlisted in the United States Air Force. He married Cindy Barnhill in 1999 and they had two children, Danny and Andie, before later divorcing.
Randy served in the Air Force from 1997 until his honorable discharge in 2002 as a staff sergeant with the Air Force Office of Special Investigations (OSI). He began his civilian law enforcement career a short time later in Gilliam County as a patrol deputy, later promoting to sergeant. Randy joined the Hermiston Police Department in 2012 as a detective and was promoted to lieutenant in 2017. Randy married his wife, Shelly on July 24, 2014 in Virginia City, Nev.
Randy enjoyed all things “cop” as well as camping, hunting, fishing, traveling, playing golf, singing around the campfire, and spending time with family.
Randy is survived by his wife, Shelly; children, Daniel and Andie; bonus children, Kaity and Jacob; mother, Anna and step-dad, Buddy; brother, Riley; sister, Marci and her husband Aaron; step-mother, Neena and her husband, Matt; three step-brothers; two step-sisters; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Randy was preceded in death by his father, Steve Studebaker.
Services were held on Friday, Oct. 6, 2023.
