Raquel Herrera of Hermiston died on Aug. 30, 2018 in Walla Walla, Wash. at the age of 64.

She was born on Jan. 10, 1954 in Edinburg, Texas to Macario and Hipolita Cervantes Rivera.

Raquel was raised in Texas and the Yakima Valley in Washington. She was united in marriage to Ruben Herrera on Aug. 7, 1982 in Hermiston. They lived in Hermiston and Raquel worked for the Hermiston School District as an elementary assessment assistant until retiring in 2015. She was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church.

Raquel enjoyed making tamales that she sold at farmers’ markets and bazaars, and dancing and music. She loved time with her family and especially spoiling her grandchildren.

She is survived by her sons, Jaime Herrera and his wife Kasi, Hermiston and Joel Herrera and his wife Yvonne, Hermiston; brothers, Jose Rivera and Ricardo Rivera, both of Seattle, Wash.; sisters, Maria Elena Veliz, Hermiston, Cristina Garcia, Hermiston and Rosa Lira Rivera, Kennewick, Wash.; grandchildren, Arian, Jaylee, Joel Jr., Matthew, Michael, Josiah and Brianna; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Raquel was preceded in death by her husband, Ruben Herrera; her parents; and siblings, Ascension Rivera, Francisco Rivera and Consuelo Garcia.

Viewing will be on Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2018 from 1 until 5 p.m. at Burns Mortuary of Hermiston.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the Faith Presbyterian Church, 1005 S.E. Ninth St., Hermiston.

Burial will follow at the Hermiston Cemetery.
