Raymond “Ray” Guilson Morgan died Friday, March 18, 2016 at his home in Umatilla at the age of 90.
He was born in Okanogan, Wash., on July 16, 1925 to Arthur and Stella Morgan. Ray was raised in North Puyallup, Wash., where he graduated from high school and then joined the Army Air Corp to become a 2nd Lieutenant, trained as a bombardier. After his military service he graduated from the University of Washington in 1949 with a Bachelor of Science in Forest Management. He worked in that field for a while before becoming a sales engineer with the Standard Oil Company. Later he bought Oakridge Golf Course in Elma, Wash.
There were many more career and life changes for him over time. On Feb. 8, 1991, he married Faye “Doloris” Cole in Nampa, Idaho and later made their home in Umatilla. Recently Ray was selected to participate in “Honor Flight” with a trip to Washington, D.C., honoring World War II veterans. Over Ray’s lifetime, he enjoyed boating, flying airplanes, golfing, building and repairing golf clubs, painting, and writing poetry.
He is survived by his wife, Doloris Morgan of Umatilla; children – Kathie (Wes) Hudman of Council, ID; Connie (George) Ziesemer of Washougal, WA; Scott (Cathy) Morgan of Grayland, WA; Renee Morgan of Lacey, WA; Arthur (Bonnie) Stolze of Surprise, AZ; and Randy (Kathy) Colhouer of Idaho City, ID; and numerous grandchildren & great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Arthur & Stella Morgan; 2 sisters and a brother.
Viewing for the Family and Friends will be held on Monday, March 28,, 2016 from 10 a.m. to noon at Burns Mortuary of Hermiston. Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, March 28, 2016 at Burns Mortuary Chapel in Hermiston. Burial with military honors will follow at the Sunset Hills Cemetery in Umatilla.
