A 14-year-old violinist from Waco, Texas will be making a guest appearance Saturday, June 11 at Wildhorse Resort & Casino’s fundraiser for the Oregon East Symphony.
Haeun Moon performed as soloist with orchestras after winning the Austin Symphony Concerto Competition, the Fort Bend Symphony Concerto Competition, the Houston Civic Symphony Young Artist Concerto Competition, the Waco Symphony Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition, and performed with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra. Moon won both the State and the South Central Division of the 2014 Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Junior Performance Competition, and performed at the MTNA National Conference in Chicago. In 2013, she performed at the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in New York as the first prize winner in her age division in the American Protégé International Concerto Competition. In addition, she also plays actively as a chamber musician.
Moon was the youngest finalist in the 2016 Lynn Harrell Concerto Competition of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. In January 2016, she was selected as the Silver Medalist for the Houston Symphony League Concerto Competition. This summer, she will attend the Great Mountains International Music Festival in South Korea on a full scholarship. She enjoys volunteering as a violin teacher at Mission Waco’s afterschool music program.
The fundraiser is themed “Young at Heart,” making 14-year-old Moon a perfect fit for the show. The 35-plus piece orchestra will perform a tribute to Saturday morning cartoon classics including Rossini’s Barber of Seville Overture, Beethoven’s Symphony no. 5, Strauss’s Blue Danube, Brahms’s Hungarian Dance no. 5, Anderson’s Chicken Reel and, of course, the Looney Tunes Theme.
Tickets for the Oregon East Symphony fundraiser start at $25 and are on sale now at the Wildhorse Gift Shop or online on the Wildhorse website.
