Rick Huxel Passes Away at 70

Richard Henry “Cowboy” Huxel died after a short illness in Salem on Jan. 21, 2024 at the age of 70.

Rick was born on Feb. 28, 1953 to Henry Huxel and Betty Halliday Huxel.

He grew up in Umatilla and graduated from Umatilla High School in 1971.

Rick was a carpenter by trade and was well known for his carpentry and concrete work throughout many areas. He enjoyed fishing and watching wrestling and was passionate with his bee-keeping skills.

In 1989 he met Becky Thomson, fell in love, and his life from then was forever changed. Through this union, his family grew to include his daughter, Chrissy; son, Justin; grandchildren, Madison, Isaiah and Henry; and great-grandson, Skyler. He is also survived by sisters, Debra and Darla Huxel.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Constance Thomas.

Rick will forever be remembered for being a one-of-a-kind guy with a kind heart and soul.

A celebration of life will be held in Umatilla on Feb. 28 at 5 p.m. at Rae’s Dayz Restaurant banquet room.
