Frederick J. “Rocky” Gurr Jr. of Lexington died on Jan. 7, 2022 in Hermiston at the age of 75.
He was born on March 17, 1946 in Redding, Calif. to Frederick Gurr Sr. and Nellie Cox Gurr.
Rocky completed high school and in 1969 he joined the United States Marine Corps. He served until his honorable discharge in 1971. Rocky had several careers during his lifetime, including logging, commercial fishing for over 30 years, truck driver, and he served as an Assembly of God pastor.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing and above all he loved God and his entire family. Rocky’s favorite Bible verse (John 3:16): “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life”.
He is survived by his wife, Joann Gurr; son, Michael and wife Kim; daughters, Tami and husband Frank, Joella and husband Larry, and Tonya and husband Randy; 13 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.
Rocky was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Marvin.
A graveside service with military honors will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2022 at 1:30 p.m. at Willamette National Cemetery, Portland.
