Rodney Norman Marks passed from this life on Oct. 5, 2013 at the age of 59.
He was born Feb. 27, 1954 in Pendleton, one day before the maternity ward at Good Shepherd Hospital in Hermiston opened its doors. He was the second son of Gayle and Joy Marks and attended Hermiston Schools, graduating from Hermiston High School in 1972.
Rod worked for PGG, Swift trucking and at the time of his passing was a paper carrier for the East Oregonian.
He married the love of his life, Jeanne Thorpe March 8, 1980. They had 25 years together before Jeanne proceeded him in death in 2005. The couple had three children, a daughter Amy and eight years later twin boys, Devon and Derek. Rod was a devoted husband and father, his family being his high joy in life.
Rod loved the outdoors, camping and hunting. He was devoted to his four-footed children, having had many pets over the years. Especially remembered is his dog Bear, Rod’s constant companion for many years. Rod was active on Facebook, advocating for his passion of firearm owner’s rights.
Rod is survived by his three children, Amy of Hermiston, and Derek and Devon at the home. He is also survived by his mother, Joy, and brother, Tom both of Hermiston, and nephew Jacob, his wife Meghan and son Benjamin and niece Katelyn all of Portland.
Private inurnment is planned later this week with a memorial service at the First Christian Church, 775 W. Highland in Hermiston at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013.
