Ronald Atkins of Hermiston passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Friday March 4, 2022 at the age of 83.
He was born Dec. 23, 1938 in Roanoke, Va., to Wilson and Virginia Atkins.
Ron grew up in Roanoke where he attended Clearbrook School with his five brothers and two sisters. He moved to Southern California in the late 1950’s where he resided until moving to Hermiston, Oregon in 1980. He was a resident of Hermiston for over forty years. He drove truck for several different companies throughout his career and even had his own truck and was self-employed for a time.
Ron enjoyed playing pool and poker, tinkering with mechanic projects, watching boxing, UFC fights and Nascar racing, fishing, camping and traveling.
Ron married Ella Mae Holland on April 26, 1969 in Las Vegas, Nev.
He is survived by his loving wife of fifty two years, Ella; son, Ronald Gene Atkins; two daughters, Natalie Trotter and Rhonda Halladay; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren; brother, Tony Atkins; two sisters, Peggy Noland and Susie Smith; and several nieces and nephews and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his son, Ricky; his parents; and brothers, Howard, Fred, Jakey and Jerry.
A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday March 10. 2022 at the Burns Mortuary Chapel, 685 W. Hermiston Ave. Hermiston). Burial will follow in the Hermiston Cemetery.
