Ronald Fay Haverland of Umatilla died on Nov. 22, 2013 in Hermiston at the age of 80.
He was born on Dec. 5, 1932 in Milton, the third of four children born to Verlin and Angie Pambrun Haverland. He was a fifth-generation Oregonian and lifelong resident. Ron graduated from McEwen High School in Athena. He enlisted in the United States Army in Dec. 16, 1952 and served in Korea until his honorable discharge on Dec. 15, 1955. Ron married Ina Claire Anderson on August 25, 1956 in Renton, Wash. They moved to Umatilla and Ron worked for the city of Umatilla, Umatilla School District, and at the Umatilla Army Depot. He was a volunteer for the Umatilla Fire Department.
He is survived by his brother, Dallas Haverland and his wife Gay, Eugene; several nieces, nephews; and many friends.
Ron was preceded in death by his wife, Ina Haverland; his parents; a brother, Arthur; and sister, Barbara.
A graveside funeral service with military honors was held on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013 at Sunset Hills Cemetery, Umatilla.
