Incumbent Umatilla County Commissioner John Shafer cruised to re-election Tuesday night and will be joined on the commission by Cindy Timmons who turned back her challenger, Susan Bowers.
Shafer received 45 percent of the vote to HollyJo Beers’ 27 percent Tuesday night. Timmons defeated Bowers, 41 percent to 32 percent to succeed retiring Commissioner George Murdock.
In the city of Umatilla, Caden Sipe defeated Lyle Smith to succeed Mary Dedrick as mayor. Sipe received 55 percent of the vote while Smith garnered 36 percent.
Two new faces will join the Umatilla City Council. Katie McMillan defeated Tina Ridings for Position 3, 46 percent to 39 percent. In the race for Position 5, Dennis McMillan defeated Ian Coyle, 54 percent to 29 percent.
In the race for the 2nd Congressional District, incumbent Republican Cliff Bentz easily defeated Democrat Joe Yetter, 65 percent to 24 percent.
State Rep. Greg Smith had no opposition in his race for House District 57. Republican Bobby Levy was re-elected to represent House District 58. She received 61 percent to Libertarian Jess Bonifer’s 13 percent.
