Ruth Hawes Passes Away at 89

Ella “Ruth” Hawes of Hermiston died on June 15, 2018 in Hermiston at the age of 89.

She was born on July 2, 1928 in Sterling, Idaho to John and Jesse Nugent Keith.

Ruth was raised in Sterling, Idaho and graduated from Aberdeen High School in the class of 1946. She was united in marriage to LaRue Hawes on December 7, 1946 in Las Vegas, Nev. They lived in Aberdeen, Idaho and Ruth worked for J.R. Simplot. They moved to Hermiston in 1980 where she had lived since. Ruth worked for Hawman’s Fresh Pack and then for the ODF&W as a fish tagger at the Irrigon Fish Hatchery for eight years.

She attended the Hermiston Church of the Nazarene and was a former member of the Hermiston Eagles Lodge. Ruth enjoyed dancing, crocheting, crafts, fishing, music, and most of all, cherished time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her sons, Rick “RD” Hawes, Hermiston and Tracy Hawes, Pleasant View, Utah; daughter, Lou Anne Patterson, Hermiston; sister, Opal Rast, Seattle, Wash.; seven grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; brother, Larry Keith; great grandson, Michael LaRue Blake; and granddaughter, Kimmy Sue Hawes McDaniel.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 29, 2018 at 1 p.m. at the Aberdeen Cemetery, Aberdeen, Idaho.
