Samantha Linn “Sam” South died on June 17, 2021 at her home in Umatilla at the age of 26.
She was born on Feb. 22, 1995 in Provo, Utah to Matthew and Rondi Thornton South.
Sam attended grade school at Rocky Heights Elementary, Armand Larive Middle School and Hermiston High School, where she participated in lacrosse. She graduated in 2013 and had worked at Pilot in Stanfield for the last three years. She enjoyed riding dirt bikes and loved being a mom to her daughter, Laney and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her daughter, Laney JoAnn Weems; parents, Matt and Rondi South; brothers, Berek and Preston South; sister, Hailey South (all of Hermiston); grandparents, Linda and Allan South, Orem, Utah; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Sam was preceded in death by grandparents, JoAnn Beach and Ron Thornton.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 25, 2021 at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 850 S.W. 11th St., Hermiston.
Burial will follow at the Hermiston Cemetery.
