Samuel George Schmidt passed away on Aug. 28, 2025 at the Haven House Retirement Center in Fossil.
Samuel was born on June 14, 1944 in Redmond to George and Dee Schmidt of Sisters.
The family, including Sam’s seven older siblings, moved to Fossil. Sam left Fossil at 18 years old and worked many jobs in the timber industry, including at the Kinzua/Heppner Mill from about 1975 to 1981, then at the Morrow County Road Department from 1981 to about 2007. Sam left the Heppner area in 2019 to move to Condon to be closer to his sister. He spent his last years and died peacefully in Fossil.
Sam enjoyed being in the mountains, whether it was falling timber or going on a hunting trip. He made friends easily and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his sister, Rosalyn Brehaut of Condon; his ex-wife, Cindy Schmidt of Eugene; his daughter, Lana Dishner of Springfield; and three grandchildren.
“I ended where I started, an ending has begun, I’ll take with me my laughter and the songs that stay unsung.” (By Lana)
