The Main Stylin’ Nook in Stanfield wanted to say a big ‘thank you’ to its senior clientele on Tuesday and did so by giving out free haircuts.

“About half of our clients are seniors and we wanted to do something nice for them” said owner April Kowalski-Milbrodt.

Tuesday was the first of four free senior haircut days at the salon, with the others scheduled for May 12, Aug. 11 and Nov. 10.

By 10 a.m. on Tuesday, the salon had already given 10 free shampoos, haircuts and stylings and expected to do as many as 30 by the end of the day. Staff at the Main Stylin’ Nook put up fliers at area senior center.

Along with the free haircuts, senior clients were also treated to refreshments and a complementary paraffin hand dip.

The salon reaches out to the community throughout the year with events such as Locks of Love in October in which the salon gives half-price haircuts and stylings to anyone donating up to 10 inches of hair for the nonprofit organization. The next Locks of Love event at Main Stylin’ Nook will be Oct. 10.

“It’s nice to give back to the community,” said Kowalski-Milbrodt, who has owned the salon for 10 years. The Main Stylin’ Nook has six stylists, a nail tech and tanning and fitness areas. She recently hired Andrew Tovey, the salon’s first barber.
